Where's Waldo... err Ashlea?!

Can you spot me on this blog?!

Retro Rack by Gail Carriger

Now, I was quite surprised to see my smiling face looking back at me from another person's blog, but quite excited and flattered at the same time. Just when I thought people were probably getting really sick of my outfit posts, I get selected as an inspirational image, which I am going to take as an encouragement :)

In case you didn't know, Gail Carriger is an author of a very fun and cheeky series which I reviewed here.

What I Wore - lots of questions

Oh my gosh - I feel like these past weeks have just been flying by! I have no time for anything these days! We are gearing up for vacation, so don't mind the mess in the background of many of the photos!
Linking up again with The Pleated Poppy!

Outift #1 - Geek Chic
So, I was not feeling well on this morning and then nearly burned my eyeball when I tried putting in my contacts. So, I gave up and wore my glasses. (btw - got those babies on a great website Zenni optical - $25 for prescription glasses!)

I loved this color combo, but I definitely need to punch an extra hole or 2 in the belt.

Now, I don't know what the etiquette is about getting super cheap knock offs - do you tell people about your savvy saver ways or do you let them believe you dropped $130 on a piece of costume jewelry?
Same with extensions - When people say, "oh your hair is so long!". Do you say thank you or do you let them in on your little 14" secret? Sound off in the comments.
Skirt: Loft
Top: Ross
Shoes: Target
Necklace: JCrew via Ebay ($14!!!)
Outfit #6 - feeling cozy on a rainy day
Skirt: Mod Cloth (how dangerous is that website?! So many cute things!!!)
Cardi: Maurices
Top and Scarf: Target
Shoes: Aldo - super clearance. I bought these shoes as a celebration when the state inspection at work was over for like $25 (originally upwards of $100). Ironically, they have now sparked a debate on if it is appropriate to wear high heels in my work environment. *sigh* I am sticking this one out until the bitter end - I can run in these babies! Plus, they are just so pretty.

That's all for today - and really let me know where you stand on the deal etiquette! You can weigh in on the high heel debate too!

What I Wore

Holy cow! Where did the week go?! I cannot believe it is Wednesday already! Things are cray-cray over here right now - gearing up for vacation while simultaneously being swamped at work does not make for a relaxing week. Anyway, without further ado....

#2 - Feeling a little silly

#3 - Oh these shoes and trouble they've gotten me into...
#4 - Feeling a little 1960's

#5 - B had to get in on the action

#6 - love these Betsy Johnson earrings from my mama-in-law!!
Thoughts? Faves?

I will be back later to update where everything is from. If I don't go get ready right now I am going to be late... you know, priorities :) haha

My Dead Friend Sarah: A Review

Mere months into recovery, Max, an alcoholic with twisted control issues, meets Sarah – the same woman that for years he’s habitually dreamt will die after a botched abduction. "Doing the next right thing," a popular AA phrase he’s picked up in the rooms, means befriending Sarah long enough to warn her and hope she takes him seriously. But when Sarah falls in love with Max, his newly sober thinking drives him to choose his overly devoted wife, and he abandons Sarah – even when it condemns her to death. When Sarah goes missing, the NYPD suspects Max’s dream may have been a pre-crime confession. The truth, all of it, lurks inside of Max, but only by drinking again does he recapture the nerve and clarity vital to free his wife, sponsor, and himself from a life imprisoned by lies. (from Goodreads)

I don't quite know what to make of this book. It was an intriguing story and I have never read a book quite like it. Both main characters are very damaged individuals and you get to experience a first-person perspective from both Max and Sarah. I was somewhat bored with the first half of the book as they are meeting one another and beginning their friendship. However, Part 2 moved much quicker for me, but was disturbing. As I said, I have never read a book quite like this, and that is mostly due to the personality of Max. It was illuminating and unnerving to read about his alcoholism, his lowest points, recovery, and relapses from his own perspective.
I am not thrilled with the way this book ends, but that's probably because I held out hope until the very end that there would be some semblance of a happy ending. Note to self: When a book title is "My Dead Friend...." it's not going to end well.
I give it a 2/5 - it was OK, perhaps not my taste, but definitely interesting.
