The Final 4 of Oscar Fashion

Well, I am finally getting around to posting on my four lovely ladies I was excited to see on the red carpet on Oscar night. And the contenders are:
Jessica Chastain
Amanda Seyfried
Anne Hathaway
Jennifer Lawrence

I think my expectations were too high... I didn't love any of their looks, but let's break it down shall we:

Up first (pretty much literally the first star on the carpet) is Best Actress nominee Jessica Chastain.

In Armani Prive

Did she look gorgeous? Yes. Absolutely.
Is it memorable? Nope.
I love her hair and make up and yes, the dress is pretty. But it is also pretty blah. There is no wow-factor here at all.

Her best red carpet moment for me was last year's Oscars in this beautiful McQueen.

Oscars 2012 - Alexander McQueen

This is stunning. This is memorable. I needed her to bring a moment to rival this one to impress me. Like I said... high expectations.

Next up - Amanda Seyfried
In Alexander McQueen
Is it pretty: Yes.
Is it memorable: Again - no wow factor. I am so sick of greige. Can we be done with non-colors?! This dress was basically custom made for her and the fit is fab, the bead work I am sure is beautiful and intricate - but this is not translating well on camera.
Hair and make-up: Gorg.

She did rock another dress though that I thought was a much better look:
In Givenchy
This was her performance/after party dress. I love, love, love this look. I think she should've worn this look on the carpet and then maybe we could have avoided the catastrophe that was Anne Hathaway's Nipplegate.

Third and my pick for Worst Dressed A-lister (A-lister because Brandi Glanville was there and look AWFUL - if you don't know who that is - good for you):

Exhibit A of the beautiful Anne Hathaway, winner for Best Supporting Actress:
In Prada
Oh those unfortunate darts.... They have spawned a twitter account for Anne's nipples. Seriously.

From the neck up - stunning. I like her necklace - but hate it with that dress.
It just looks like a shiny tube of satin to me. Yes the back is sexy, but it doesn't make me like it any more.
Is it memorable.... unfortunately.
So why is this Amanda Seyfried's fault? Well you may have heard that Anne ditched her original Valentino when she realized it looked similar to Seyfried's dress:
The Valentino
I personally would've still worn it. They could've duked it out on "Bitch Stole my Look" rather than Anne just plopping herself at the top of every worst-dressed list out there.
Here are her other looks for the night:
After party dress: Saint Laurent, the infamous Prada, and her Armani performance gown
So, we all know I hate the Prada dress. I actually really like the Armani gown, except for that it makes her girls look a little saggy. I would've dressed her in the Saint Laurent dress for the red carpet. I think it is stunning, even though it's also a satin-tube. :)
And to leave it on a good note for sweet Annie - this is my favorite red-carpet look of hers:
2008 Oscars - Marchesa gown
And last, but certainly not least: Jennifer Lawrence - Winner of Best Actress.

In Dior Haute Couture
I did love the backwards necklace too - super cute - and just look at her. She's adorable.

Now, JLaw is a Dior girl now, so she obviously was going to wear Dior on the carpet. The dress is stunning. She has the stature to pull off such a voluminous dress. I feel like it is lacking something for me though. I think she was going for the wow-factor, but I don't know if this hit the mark for me.
Is it memorable: Well, yes. Yes it is. Especially when this happens:

The dress actually looks amazing in that shot... Sorry JLaw. lol I don't feel too terribly bad for her - Hugh Jackman and Bradley Cooper immediately rushed to her aid.

She also switched it up later in the evening for a sleeker, but also stunning look:
Calvin Klein
I like this look - but my favorite red carpet moment for her - the very memorable red Calvin Klein dress
THAT - is a memorable look.
What I have learned from this post - aside from the fact that I have too much time on my hands - is that I really like red dresses. :)
What do you think? How would YOU have dressed these leading ladies?

Oscars Fashion - Best and Worst Dressed

Ah - Oscar's night - the pinnacle of awards season and red carpet fashion!

However, I can't lie here folks, I was a little underwhelmed this year by the fashion choices. Have I become jaded and cynical? Are my expectations too high? I'm not sure, but I really think many of these ladies could have done better. I just wasn't wowed by anyone.

Anyway, with the exception of my Final Four - Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Jennifer Lawrence - I will go through some of my favorite and lease favorite looks of the night. I will have a separate post on those four ladies though - so stay tuned!

Best Dressed: And even though I wasn't wowed - these ladies did look absolutely gorgeous.

Amy Adams - I loved this dove grey gown
And here she is looking stunning in her after-party gown.

I know Amy Poehler wasn't actually at the Oscars, but this may be the best I've ever seen her look!

I want to cry just looking at this picture of Robin Roberts - stunning, just simply stunning. his is actually my favorite gown of the night - the cobalt blue is beyond gorgeous and she just has such a remarkable story. Love it.

Catherine Zeta-Jones - Ladies - this is what a movie star looks like. I love this gold dress, plus the hair and earrings - perfection.

Charlize Theron - She is topping best-dressed lists everywhere and it's not hard to see why. She is elegant and classy in this simple gown

Guilianna Rancic - I think she was sick since she looks a little green around the gills, and a little extra-thin, but I think a lack of hair extensions and this simple gown look fabulous on her

Jennifer Aniston - I LOVED seeing her in a voluminous, bright dress - this is a departure for her so I can forgive her for going w/ her standard blow-out.

I don't know who this kid is, but she looks perfect. :)

Kerry Washington - she's been so much fun to watch this red carpet season - and did not disappoint on Oscar night.

Nicole Kidman is getting her mojo back a little more every red carpet. She's so close w/ this gown - I just would change that little gold thing that looks like the bat symbol at her waist. :)

Octavia Spencer - I didn't like this dress when I first saw it on the carpet, but the more I saw it, the more it grew on me.

Salma Hayek - She's just stunning and her hair reminds me of Audrey Hepburn's in My Fair Lady.

Reese Witherspoon - hands down best hair of the night. The gown's not half bad either ;)

Olivia Munn - I am just posting her pic because it was a novel occasion that I actually liked something she wore
Stacey Keibler - and this is why she's still with George Cloony ladies. Stunning.

Here is an honorable mention for best dressed, because I am just not sure what to make of it and I think I liked her after-party dress better:
Naomi Watts - What do you think? I like it more the more I look at it....
But I think I like this one better....
And now.... Worst Dressed of the night (there really aren't TOO many!)
Jennifer Garner - She's sweet and wonderful and I think her and Ben are super adorable together - but she's got tail-feathers.

Melissa McCarthy. You are killing me. I think you need to take notes from Octavia Spencer on how to dress a full-figure and good Lord in Heaven - what is happening to your hair?

Halle Berry - quote of the night for her "The 80's called, and they DON'T want this dress back"

Kristen Stewart.... 1. Why was she there? 2. Your dress doesn't fit. 3. Buy a freaking brush. 4. It wouldn't kill you to crack a smile.

Zoe Saldana. She's so pretty. I just do not dig this dress at all. It's different... that's the best I can come up with...
Who are your best and worst picks? Agree or Disagree with me? Sound off in the comments! And stay tuned for my post on my Final Four ladies!

Pre-Oscar Fashion

I am super excited for the Oscars on Sunday! I really could care less about who wins the actual awards, but you know I am thrilled for that red carpet. The four women I am watching for on Sunday are Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, and Jennifer Lawrence.
As nominees, Chastain, Hathaway, and Lawrence, will definitely be bringing their A games
and I cannot wait to see what they wear. As a little teaser, here are some of their pre-Oscar looks:

Here's Jessica at a pre-Oscar party in blue and the Oscar luncheon in a floral frock. Both are in a beautiful color palate for her, but neither one wows me. They are just pretty and I really don't love the cape-like thing happening in that blue dress.

The always sleek Anne Hathaway. In a simple LBD for the Oscar luncheon and in cute little mod-inspired white dress and faux (she's vegan) fur jacket. I like both of these looks - they are both simple, sleek, and look fantastic with her pixie cut. And dang - who knew she had those legs?

Amanda Seyfried (aging buddy!)! Her taste is a little non-traditional, but most of the time I love it. Since she did not attend the Oscar luncheon I picked another red carpet look from a Les Mis premiere. On the left she wore a shiny little blue frock to a pre-Oscar party and on the right her scuba-inspired red carpet dress. Love that one - can't wait to see what she does on the red carpet!

And last, but most certainly not least, JLaw. On the left she wore a simple, but almost frothy, white strapless dress to the Oscar luncheon and on the left, a spunky black and white number to a pre-Oscar bash. I like the look on the left, I love the one on the right.

Who are looking forward to seeing on the red carpet this weekend?!

Grammy Style

I loved the Grammys this year. I loved seeing the fashion, but even more than that, the performances. I love, and I mean looooooove, fun., Mumford and Sons, Dierks Bently, Miranda Lambert, Tswizzle, Bruno Mars and so many more. I thought most of the performances were pretty fantastic, but really enjoyed the in memoriam performance by Zac Brown Band, Alabama Shakes, and Mumford and Sons and the Bob Marley tribute performance with Bruno Mars, Sting, and Rhinana.

But for now, let's take a look at the fashion :)
Best of the Night:
RiRi looks fantastic.

Taylor Swift - looking like a "man eater" lol

Carrie Underwood - looking beautiful and all glitzed up

Yes- that hair is ridiculous but Bonnie McKee looks gorg.
I don't know why she was there, but Kathy Griffth looks hot to trot :)

Most Fun:
Adele. I love that she departed from her normal basic black - people thought this looked like a granny quilt, but I loved it.

Florence Welch - an age buddy - she looks like a sparkly green dinosaur but I still love it

Katy Perry. Judge me if you want - I love this.

I just had to throw Kat Dennings on here because she got a lot of hate and I love her. lol Yes, her dress is a little chintzy, but I still thinks she looks good.

Dapper Dudes:
fun.

John Mayer - best I have seen him look in the last 5 years

Justin Timberlake.

Worst Dressed:
Kelly Rowland. Could we leave a little to the imagination? She seriously must have broken the dress code in about 100 ways.

Estelle. She designed her own dress - perhaps she could keep her day job

JLo. She seriously doesn't know how to keep it classy.

Ashanti has no taste. None.

Alicia Keys - beautiful girl, don't even really mind this dress/top thing, but the helmet hair has got to go!

Beyonce. No. Just no.
