Too Early for New Years?

I've been considering the new year lately and what my resolutions may be. Now, usually I am not one for putting a ton of time into thinking about the new year and resolutions. I love the idea of self-improvement and have really latched onto that this year. I know I am about 2 months early on my 2013 resolutions, but I have been toying with this idea for a couple weeks now. Then, I saw AlliFerg's blog on her 2013 challenge (it's a doozy!) and felt extra inspired to get this goal on the blogosphere and hold myself accountable to it.

So, for those of you who know me in real life you know I am not a health nut. I am not a runner. I am not a super-healthy eater. My ideal afternoon is spent inside, on a couch, with a book and a couple of pups draped in my lap. I know that I need to make some life-altering habit changes in this area and I have definitely been working on it. (You can see how in my Why I Don't Totally Hate Running Anymore post)

To continue to work on my health and fitness my goal for 2013 (starting a bit early) is to run at least a 5K per month in 2013. I say "at least" because that's the minimum distance I am setting for myself. I hope to improve as each month passes and I know that having something to work towards will keep me more motivated to keep training.

I will keep track of my progress here, posting my experiences, accomplishments, and disappointments - including running times each month. My goal is not to be skinny or lose weight (even though those would be great perks) but to just improve my overall health and physical fitness. I want to establish healthy life habits that I can someday teach to a mini-me or two and I'd like to be around for a long, long time.

Stay tuned for an update on my first race, which I ran today!
